Our story in the woods of Lovell

From an open backyard fire sparked by a school lesson to a handcrafted sugar shack tucked along the slopes of Kezar Gorge, discover how our family crafts pure, wood-fired Maine maple syrup.

Sparked by a backyard curiosity

It all began when our son came home from school brimming with excitement about tree tapping. Inspired by his curiosity, we tapped a few backyard maples and boiled the clear sap over an open outdoor fire. What started as an afternoon experiment quickly turned into a cherished family tradition. Sharing those initial golden jars with friends and relatives convinced us that this passion was worth pursuing every spring.

Building the sugar shack and wood-fired evaporator

As our love for sugaring grew, so did our commitment to authentic craft. We upgraded our setup by building a dedicated sugarhouse and installing a traditional wood-fired evaporator. Boiling over real cordwood gives our syrup its nuanced, robust sweetness and preserves timeless heritage methods that commercial factories simply cannot duplicate.

Harnessing the Kezar Gorge landscape

Our sugarbush thrives in Lovell, Maine, along the natural contours of Kezar Gorge. We use gravity lines winding through the forest to gather sweet sap gently and efficiently down to the collection tanks. Working harmoniously with the elevation and native terrain allows us to protect our woods while delivering an authentic taste of pure Maine.

"Opening a bottle of Kezar Gorge Maple immediately brings back memories of fresh winter air and morning pancakes in the Maine woods. You can taste the genuine care and wood-fired tradition in every pour."
